11/9/2021Lindsey Guendjoian My name is Lindsey guendjoian and I am a resident of Costa Mesa. I strongly support Proposal 5 and could support proposal 5A. These are the only maps that have made communities of interest the top priority when drawing lines, and taken in the important testimonies of residents from communities that have been historically marginalized by the County. I oppose the other proposals that unnecessarily split up many communities of interest. Proposal 2A splits up Asian American communities of interest in Irvine twice. Proposals 4C and 5B also divide Asian American communities in Irvine. Proposals 4A, 4C, and 5B splits both Irvine and Costa Mesa. Proposals 2A, 4A, and 4B draw South Fullerton and West Anaheim into the same district as Yorba Linda and the Anaheim Hills, affluent areas with different needs. Proposals 2 and 2A isolate Latinx communities in Buena Park, south Fullerton, east Garden Grove, and Tustin rather than draw them together with similar Latinx communities nearby. Proposals 4, 4A, and 4B isolate Latinx communities in east Garden Grove. Please support Proposals 5 or 5A. Thank you.

Los Alamitos/ 5062 Antietam Ave

I have lived in Orange County for at least 34 years. I have lived in Seal Beach, Rossmorr, Los Alamitos, single, and married. I have absolutely no desire to be part of Los Angeles County. If I wanted to live in Los Angles County I would have moved there a very long time ago. I want my money to stay in O.C. I do not to be part of Los Angles County Mess. I do not want apartment buildings to pop-up just anywhere in neighborhoods. I saw what happened in San Diego County and made the neighborhoods ugly. I resent Alan Lowenthal as my Representative  having one foot in Long Beach and I Los Alamitos. This is too close for an inroad to change us into Los Angeles. The status quo is what I want and want No part of LA County. I also do not want to mop up the financial mess Los Angeles has its in with forced illegals and homeless. If we move to LA County our properties value will go down along with the school district (It is a mess with CRT now). I am American citizen who does not want to be treated as a second class citizen in my own Country and State.

11/9/2021Diane Kanne

Maps 2 and 5 are ridiculously gerrymandered. Why do you believe that the concerns of Korean Americans in Fullerton are the same as those of Vietnamese Americans in Garden Grove (Map 2)? Would not the residents of Fullerton, regardless of ethnicity, share the same concerns? And why put people in Yorba Linda together with Anaheim Hills and South County (Map 5), and not together with Placentia or Brea where they share school districts, Chino Hills State Park, the Santa Ana River, infrastructure, roads, shopping centers, and until recently, a police force?

These two maps (Maps 2 and 5) seemed designed to keep the current supervisors in office. Asian American voices in Orange County have not been diluted. Until recently, Orange County had three (3) supervisors of Asian decent representing diverse districts. If anything, its Latino voices that have been diluted.

Cities North of the 91 freeway should be in the same district. I support Map 4 or a modifed Map 5 with Yorba Linda drawn into the same district as Placentia and Brea.

11/9/2021Carol N CraneNewport-Mesa Unified School District

Dear Chairperson Do and Honorable Board of Supervisors,

As a trustee for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) who directly represents the constituencies of both Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, it is important that I write to you as you deliberate the redistricting process.

NMUSD serves 18,000 students and employs over 3,200 employees throughout Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. Our Board of Education takes pride in the many accolades and accomplishments awarded to our schools over the years.

It is for these reasons that we request NMUSD be held together as one Supervisor District (currently Area 2), so that the voices and concerns of parents, teachers, staff, as well as the electorate can be adequately addressed.

Not only does our school district bind the two areas together, but so do portions of both the Costa Mesa Sanitary District and Mesa Water District. Additionally, most of our youth sports leagues, extracurricular academic programs and countless recreational opportunities encompass both Newport Beach and Costa Mesa residents.

Thus, as you deliberate the redistricting of the county, please keep in mind the urgency of keeping NMUSD held together under one Supervisorial district. The County’s  services and mental health services have a robust presence in our schools. As a result, logistically, strategically, and functionally, communicating with one instead of two supervisors and their staff will strongly maintain a more efficient and cohesive relationship with the County’s representation. If you were to choose a proposed map that splits our district, this will negatively affect our governance.

I am asking the same to the California’s Citizen’s Redistricting Commission in regards to our State Assembly, State Senate and U.S. Congress apportionment.

I appreciate your consideration of this request to keep these two special communities whole and thank you for your tireless public service. You are greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

To Whom it May Concern:

As a 40 year resident of H.B.,  I am shocked to hear that the city council is even entertaining the idea of redistricting H.B.into L.A. county.  Before this becomes law I am sure the city residents would like to have a vote in the decision.  Please include your residents and communities! We are the tax payers and should be allowed to have a say!

Thank you!

Keep Costa Mesa United!

I support Maps 5 and 2A.

We do not want gerrymandering to assure that certain groups have a majority in Orange County supervisory districts. We want the districts to be fair.

Again, I support Map 5 and Map 2A.

11/9/2021Laurie Maben To Whom it May concern,

We have been residents of Huntington Beach for 12 years and love the smallness and tightly knit community feel about it. We love the beaches, as well! Please don’t allow to change the districts by changing the boundaries. There is no sensibility behind this move. Keep the charm here! Residents don’t want to be part of LA county!
11/9/2021Wendy Rincon Hello,

I am emailing you to ask that the OC BOS “Keep Costa Mesa United”! I support Maps 5 and 2A. Katrina Foley has been an extremely important representative for us and it is imperative that gerrymandering not be allowed to remove her from our district.

Dear Orange County Board of Supervisors,

As a registered voter, property owners, and long-time resident of Orange County, I urge you to adopt either Map 2A or Map 5.

I have reviewed the proposed revisions to the Board of Supervisor districts. Although the maps provided proved to be difficult to read, I did review each of the proposed boundary changes and believe that Map 2A or Map 5 represent the best interests of the County's residents.

Hello,

Please see the public comment below by Araceli Robles, a Santa Ana resident.

My name is Araceli Robles and I have been a resident of Santa Ana for more than 20 years. My zip code is 92701. I have worked at Latino Health Access for 16 years facilitating a group of 60 mothers, where we share the importance of civic participation and learn about the impacts of the social determinants of health.

I support 5 and 5A because they respect all Latinx communities, not just those in Santa Ana. Other maps like 2, 2A, 4, 4A, and 4B leave Latinx communities in Buena Park, south Fullerton, east Garden Grove, and Tustin without a voice by separating them from nearby communities with which they have shared interests.

Please support Proposals 5 and 5A.

Thank you.

11/9/2021Mary Urashima

Hello,

Please include and consider my public comments in your discussion on redistricting. I have copied my District 2 supervisor

Please support redistricting maps 5 and 2A.

I have two concerns related to this:

1) The public has had approximately one week to be made aware of your redistricting proposals. Where is the public outreach? Where are the infographics sharing the redistricting proposals and their rationale? You are restricting general public input which facilitates purely political interests driving the process.  Extend the public comment period and make a genuine effort regarding public outreach.

2) Why propose splitting up communities with obvious common interests, e.g. Costa Mesa? This illogical proposal appears driven by purely political interests and not the greater public interest. Political gerrymandering is always transparent. It never escapes public and media notice, and there is always fallout.

•          Support redistricting maps 5 and 2A.

•          Extend the public comment period so that the average person in Orange County has the opportunity for informed consent.

•          Be transparent by providing greater public outreach with infographics, rationales, and reasonable public comment deadlines for the redistricting proposals for informed consent by the public.

•          Serve the community, not your personal political interests.

I am emailing you to ask that the Orange County Board of Supervisors enact  Maps 5 and 2A.  I support having all supervisors live in the districts they represent.  I am a registered voter and a homeowner in Orange County.

Our communities of interest must remain together that means the entire city of Costa Mesa must remain in district 2 along with Newport Beach besides being cities that need to be remain intact, they also have been together for the last 55 years as Newport-Mesa School District. The best option for this is 2A, followed by 4B or 5A or 5B.

Thank you~

11/9/2021Kristine Kenyon

To OC supervisors:

Any attempt to draw district maps to benefit your political interests rather than benefit voters and make sense to OC residents will be met with focused, intense backlash including legal action and political censure.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT attempt to split up Costa Mesa in an attempt to edit Katrina Foley’s district off the map. We are watching every move, and will take immediate legal action if you try to choose your voters according to your party rather than act ethically in our best interests.

District maps must be fair and sensible for Orange County residents. We are watching.

11/9/2021Faye Hezar

Dear BOS members,

Keeping a community together should be the goal of redistricting not splitting them.

Splitting Costa Mesa will be a disservice to this community.

Costa Mesa has grown to be diverse and thriving community in the last 10 years. Why fix something that is not broken?

11/9/2021Anne Parzick Hi!

I am emailing you to ask that the OC BOS “Keep Costa Mesa United”! I support Maps 5 and 2A.
11/9/2021Esmeralda

It's time we start acting like the mature elected officials we thought we voted for and start worrying about what is best for the community as a whole.  You should be ashamed of yourselves for breaking up communities based off your interests. This needs to stop now, it's disgusting what is going on with politics and I will do my best to make sure you are all exposed for the frauds you are.

Please support Proposals 5 or 5A.

Thank you.

Gentlemen:

Please keep the city of Costa Mesa together in your Redistricting.  Splitting the city into two parts, thus making it a part of two different districts, would unjustly not only greatly water down the voices of the majority of its residents; but it would have the effect of nullifying  - actually eliminating the right of a large, distinct constituency with numerous unique, community needs that would not longer have the proportional opportunity to seek representation on the board.

As such, I strongly urge the Board of Supervisors commit to a redistricting that maintains the entire city of Costa Mesa within a single district. Mm

11/9/2021Nonia

Hello,

I am shocked, but sadly not surprised, to see the blatantly politically motivated redrawn maps based on power hungry cynicism.

What’s beyond gross is the effort to suppress the vote by splitting Costa Mesa because a Democrat, Supervisor Foley, won. In the eyes of her OCBOS colleagues and the OC GOP, what makes her win so untenable is she’s the only one of them actually doing the work of representing the people of their district.

I’m sure it must be embarrassing for them but rather than, oh, I don’t know, do the work in their own districts, instead they are relying on manipulating maps so they can serve their donors and the OC GOP, and thus, their own coffers because money and power and more important than democracy.

Costa Mesa must be kept together and as such, I support Maps 5 and 21.

11/8/2021Gladys Hanzo

My top two maps from the 8 options are maps #5 and #6 for the new redistricting of county maps.

We strongly urge you to follow these priorities:

  1. coastline needs to be split into three county districts
  2. keep cities together, especially Anaheim, Irvine, Garden Grove and Costa Mesa
  3. follow the Voting Rights Act criteria

Thank you

11/8/2021Peter Chu My name is Peter Chu and I am a resident of Yorba Linda. I strongly support Proposal 5 and could support proposal 5A. Thank you.
11/8/2021Patricia Hanzo

Good afternoon Orange County Supervisors,

I attended the August 11th OC Public Workshop that you hosted and obtained those large maps that use the Census Designated Places Cities (CDP) 2020.  After careful review of the current 8 proposed maps (as of 11/08/21), we strongly believe that the coastline needs to be split into three county districts.  Another criteria that we strongly urge you to consider is to keep cities together, especially Anaheim, Irvine, Garden Grove and Costa Mesa as encouraged by the Voting Rights Act.

From the 8 options listed, we strongly urge you to use MAP PROPOSAL 5 and adjust it to keep the above cities together.

https://www.ocgov.com/news/county-orange-releases-2021-proposed-redistricting-map-submissions

Again, please follow these requests:

  1. coastline needs to be split into three county districts
  2. keep cities together, especially Anaheim, Irvine, Garden Grove and Costa Mesa.

11/8/2021Shannon Davis

My name is Shannon Davis, and I am a resident of Huntington Beach. I strongly support Proposal 5 and could support proposal 5A. These are the only maps that have made communities of most concern the top priority when drawing lines and taken in the important testimonies of residents from communities that have been historically marginalized by the County. I oppose the other proposals that unnecessarily split up many communities of concern. Please support Proposals 5 or 5A.

11/8/2021Anne Prestridge Hello,

11/8/2021Anonymous As a member of Supervisor Katrina Foley’s current district, I believe any attempt to split Costa Mesa would have extremely deleterious effects as a form of Republican gerrymandering, intended to reconsolidate recently lost power, in the form of a Supervisor seat awarded to Foley, back into the Republican party’s hands, despite the clear will of the voters showing a desire for the opposite. In redistricting, I believe it is integral to keep Costa Mesa united in order to prevent this partisan gerrymandering. I support the adoption of either the proposed Map 5 or the proposed Map 2A.

11/8/2021Kelli Bourne

Dear OC Board of Supervisors,

My name is Kelli Bourne and I am a resident of Laguna Niguel, OC, CA.

Thank you for your time.

11/8/2021Alan Boinus Hello,

I am writing as a South County resident to request that the OC BOS support Maps 5 and 2A and keep Costa Mesa in one district. It really seems like some of the maps are trying to upend California's impartial redistricting. This is apparent when one of the maps actually removes a sitting Supervisor from their own district.

11/8/2021Libby Frolichman I am emailing to show my support for maps 2A or 5. Both comply with the rules for keeping communities of interest together, distributing the population equitably and splitting very few cities.

NO redistricting in Costa Mesa.  I support Maps 5 and 2A

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a resident of Rossmoor and am AGAINST the idea of making our city part of Los Angeles County. Our city will not benefit from becoming part of LA county. It will go down the tubes like the rest of Los Angeles County.

This decision is to benefit the liberal left. They have already ruined our state plain and simple.

Do not redistrict Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach. NO.

11/8/2021Catherine Palmer

I support Map 2A which allows hundreds of thousands of South County voters to choose their own representative in 2022.

Five of the six maps prevent South County voters from even having a say on their representative in the 2022 election.

It is abundantly clear that future redistricting needs to be taken out of the hands of the supervisors and placed with a non-partisan commission in order to ensure that all voters have an opportunity to elect officials who will work to represent their best interests.

Good afternoon OC Board of Directors,

I live in South Orange County, in what is currently District 5, a district up for election next year. A good portion of the sample redistricting maps I've seen will change the district that myself and nearly my entire extended family will be in, and eliminate an election for us next year, giving us a Board Supervisor we had no voice in electing. This is unacceptable.

I know that this is a difficult process, but I would hope that you would do everything in your power to try and not disenfranchise 10s of thousands of people in the process. The sample map under consideration that most reflects the current District 5 lines that I've seen is Map 5, so that is the one I would most like to see adopted. I will let my family members chime in on this subject.

--

And of course, I made an error in labeling the Map option I prefer, it would be Map 2A for District 5.
